The United States of America is one the wealthiest country on earth. For this reason, people don’t think that they are facing problem like homelessness, but actually, it is one of the national issue in this country. According to an article about homelessness on Wikipedia, one out of 50 children will be homeless each year. Everybody need to know that because it is very disconcerting. We must be aware of that and attempt to cope with it, because if nothing is done, it can become an issue of public safety.

Yet there are many institutions of charity that are contributing in helping the homeless people. One of them is called Salvation Army. This institution is present in more than 100 countries and over one million member(cf. Wikipedia). This institution encourages people to volunteer and help the homeless. This is very valuable because they are providing foods and clothes to those poor people.

In fact, taking care of the homeless is in the benefit of everyone. To begin, it is about human dignity. Everybody deserve clothes, foods and shelter regardless your religion, your moral values (criminals or not, dope fiend or not, alcoholic or not), and your sexual preference. On behalf of human dignity, those people need to know that the world know their existence and want to help them. Second, uncontrolled homelessness can generate insecurity. In Haiti for example, some homeless kids grew up in the streets. Very often, some of them end up relying on their gun to earn their life. As a result they tend to kill people many times. In fact, they don’t have nothing to lose. All of that to say, it is important to take care of those people on behalf of human dignity, otherwise they fall into a “Having nothing to lose” mind which can be very dangerous and harmful.

Then, how should we take care of the homeless? By only giving them clothes, foods and shelters. Of course not, we need to do more than that. Giving them, those things is not sustainable because they will rely on that and consequently stay homeless their whole life. We need to do something sustainable. We can try to identify the causes of their homelessness and come up with a solution. For example, if they are drug or alcohol addicted, we can send them in a detoxication center. If they are mentally insane, send them to a psychotherapist. If we do this, we will tackle the problem at its core and solve it once for all.

In sum, we need a better world for everyone. Taking care of the homeless is one the action to have this peaceful world that we are dreaming. Remember that when you give something to the homeless, you give them their dignity and their self-worth. So, never hesitate to help those people, they are just not so lucky as you.
